PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera capable of accurately detecting the abnormality of a motor such as step-out. SOLUTION: While a lens driving part for moving a lens is worked, the contrast of a photographic image is detected. Ordinarily, the defocus amount of a subject is changed when the lens is moved, so that the contrast is also changed equally to or above a given extent. When the detected contrast is not changed equally to or above the given extent though the lens driving part is worked, it shows a situation that the lens is not moved.
