PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems in a disk array device that time required for recognizing thousands of volumes by a computer is extremely long, many memories are occupied and volume recognition/separation processing can not be easily performed. SOLUTION: In one embodiment, a storage device comprises a control part for transmitting a response signal to a computer so as to recognize a virtual drive capable of dealing a non-transport type storage area as a storage medium allowed to be transported and a storage part for storing volume management information indicating correspondence relation between the virtual drive and the storage area. The computer comprises an interface for receiving the response signal and a control part for recognizing the virtual drive capable of dealing the non-transport type storage area as the storage medium allowed to be transported. The control part of the storage device specifies a storage area to be accessed on the basis of an access request from the computer to the virtual drive and the volume management information.
