PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a confocal microscope having simple constitution, realizing the miniaturization of a device, made low-priced and selectively performing confocal observation and non-confocal observation. SOLUTION: In the confocal microscope, illuminating light outgoing from a light source 1 is split by a beam splitter 3, and the microscope has a confocal optical system A guiding either illuminating light to an objective 7 and also equipped with a disk 5, and a non-confocal optical system B guiding the other illuminating light split by the beam splitter 3 to the objective 7, and is provided with a mirror 15 reflecting the illuminating light from the optical system B toward the objective 7 at the intersection of the optical paths of the optical systems A and B so that it can be attached/detached by an attaching/detaching means 18. Then, the illuminating light from the confocal optical system is intercepted in a state where the mirror 15 is inserted in the optical path. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
