The wiper arm movement control method selects the movement rate of the wiper arm (2) between 2 end positions in dependence on operating data (B) specific to the automobile, e.g. by selection of an interval stage (I) for at least one interval circuit (6,8,10) in dependence on the operating data. An Independent claim for a device for controlling the wiper arm movement in a windscreen wiper unit is also included.
