The actuator has a multilayer structure comprising piezo layers with internal electrodes (3,4) between them, connected to external electrodes (5,6). The regions between the external electrodes are provided with a suitable insulation (7,8). The insulation comprises a layer of adhesive tape which covers a predetermined region between the external electrodes. An Independent claim is included for a method of manufacturing a piezo actuator.
