PURPOSE: A controlling device and a method thereof are provided to clearly show that a digital video device is changed to a specified state and clearly show a cause not allowing the digital device to be changed to the specified state. CONSTITUTION: It is judged that a response for the first request for requesting the digital video device to be changed to the specified state is 'ACK'(S402). In case of the 'ACK', notification information for notifying a controller of state change is received before a predetermined time is passed(S404). In the case that the notification information is not received before the predetermined time is passed, the second request for requesting the information representing the state of the digital video device is transmitted to the digital video device(S406).
