Apparatus has a current sensing arrangement between a vehicle battery terminal and on-board electrical system for detecting battery current, an external power supply connection, whereby the current sensing arrangement is connected between the external power supply connection and its connected battery terminal, and an arrangement for making the battery terminal to which the sensing arrangement is connected inaccessible to an external supply. The arrangement has a current sensing arrangement (5) between a terminal of the vehicle battery (1) and the on-board electrical system for detecting the battery current, an external power supply connection (6), not a battery terminal, whereby the current sensing arrangement is connected between the external power supply connection and the battery terminal to which the sensing arrangement is connected, and an arrangement for making the battery terminal to which the current sensing arrangement is connected inaccessible for an external power supply.
