PURPOSE: A piston valve for a shock absorber is provided to prevent noise and improve riding comfort by restricting vortex of oil and enlarging the sectional area of the outlet in the lower part of the extension passage. CONSTITUTION: Plural extension passages(34) are formed in a body(30) of a piston valve(20), and plural compression passages(36) are formed outside the extension passages. A single disk(40) and a multi-disk(50) are installed in the upper part and the lower part of the body of the piston valve. Circumferential grooves(32) are formed in the upper part and the lower part of the body, and the extension passages are formed in the circumferential groove. Elliptical grooves(34a) are recessed in the outlet formed in the lower part of the extension passage to enlarge the sectional area of the outlet. Damping force is generated by flowing fluid from the compression chamber into the compression passage in compressing oil and moving the piston valve down.
