PURPOSE: A device for servicing a music on demand function in a mobile communication network and a method therefor are provided to convert humming of a simple melody into a certain music signal to transmit the music signal to a server, and to retrieve the music signal through a DB to transmit retrieved results to a client, so that a user can easily search desired music. CONSTITUTION: A client comprises as follows. An input portion(101) directly inputs music sounds reproduced through various media, or inputs humming of a melody from a user. A conversion portion(102) extracts a specific signal having music characteristics from a voice or a voice signal inputted through tagging or the humming. A transceiving portion(103) transmits the converted music signal to a server through a mobile communication network, and receives retrieved results from the server. An output portion(104) displays received results from the server.
