A guard for a table saw has a cover member positioned above a working surface and rotating blade of a table saw. The cover member provides a gap between a lower surface of the cover member and the working surface to permit a work piece to pass there through to be cut by the rotating blade. T he guard has at least one support member for supporting the cover member above the working surface. The support member facilitates lateral movement of the cover member between a first position and a second working position. The lateral movement is generally parallel to the working surface. The cov er member covers the rotating blade from above throughout the cutting operation.
