PURPOSE: A high speed output switching method and an apparatus are provided to simplify configuration of the converter and rapidly separate DC power from the shorted load. CONSTITUTION: A multi-level pulse width modulation(PWM) converter comprises power line switch groups arranged in serial to AC power lines input to the multi-level PWM converter; a resistor(Rdc) connected in serial to a positive output terminal of the multi-level PWM converter; a switch(Sdc) connected in parallel to the resistor; an inductor connected in serial between the resistor and a load; the load connected between the inductor and a negative output terminal of the multi-level PWM converter; and a pair of a switch(S01) and a capacitor(C1) connected to the connection point between the resistor and the positive output terminal of the multi-level PWM converter. Multiple pairs of switches and capacitors are repeatedly connected, until reaching the negative output terminal of the PWM converter.
