A papermaking machine feeds a paper web between drums and rollers. These are turned by two or more cable loops (24, 25) engaging in pulley wheels. The machine feeds a web through a first route or a second route, driven by the respective cable loop. Each web route shares a common section (22) in which the cables are side-by-side esp. on one side of the assembly. In the side-by-side section the cables engage with the pulley (16, 17) top surface and the inner cable (24) may be raised clear of the pulley wheel by a rotating cylinder.
