PURPOSE: A bench with a backrest being opened and shut is provided to keep a seat plate always clean without being contaminated even in the rain or in other cases as the backrest of a chair becomes naturally and slowly covered onto the seat plate when a person sits on the chair, stands up and leaves the bench. CONSTITUTION: An outdoor bench(1) is constructed to allow a person to sit on and take a rest. A backrest(4) functions as a back plate(4) structure in which the backrest(4) is stabilized and fixed to the seat plate(2). A timer type spring-driven connecting rope(3) acts as a connection supporting shaft. A spring type round main spring(12) formed integral with the connecting rope(3) is fixed and attached to both side regions of the seat plate(2), and also is formed integral with a rope connection ring(11) located in both side regions of the backrest(4). When a person moves from a bench(1) after manually opening the backrest(4), the backrest(4) of the bench automatically covers the seat plate(2) by the restoration principle of the spring type round main spring(12).
