A non-woven fibre web composed of at least two different materials is formed by feeding fibres such as staple fibres by means of air streams down the ducts 22, 23 onto oppositely rotating condensers 25, 26 respectively. The fibres are formed into laps between the drums 25, 26 and plates 28, 29 respectively and doffed therefrom by rollers 31, 32, 33 and 34, 35, 36 onto lickerins 53, 54 respectively which comb fibres from the laps. Air stream from the chambers 41, 42 aid in doffing the fibres from these lickerins and convey them down the ducts 57, 58 to the oppositely rotating drums 69, 70 respectively. Material different from these fibres is simultaneously delivered between the drums 69, 70 so as to form a non-woven web which is conveyed away by the belt C. The different material may be continuous filaments such as plastic or glass fibres which are fed from rotary bobbins 73 and/or beams 74 and guided by rods 76. Some of the filaments pass straight through nozzles 77 in plate 61 and others pass through a weft laying unit 78 above 61. In another embodiment different short length fibres are fed between drums 70, 69 by means of a third lickerin intermediate 53, 54. Alternatively the "different material" may be a powdered thermoplastic continuous filaments which have been coated with a tacky substance prior to feeding between drums 69, 70. |
