Machine for removing surface layer of concrete, e.g. on roads crossing bridges, contains waterjet nozzle mounted on holder swept backwards and forwards

The machine removes the surface layer using a waterjet nozzle mounted on an elongated holder (30). This holder is moved backwards and forwards in a sweeping motion, and is raised in front of the machine in between sweeps. The waterjet has an attack angle opposing the sweep direction and in the end positions the holder is rotated into the new attack angle for the subsequent sweep. Concrete beneath the reinforcing rods extending parallel to the sweep direction is removed more effectively by ensuring the waterjet is not oriented straight in front of the sweep direction without being raised in the forwards or backwards direction. An Independent claim is also included for a method for exposing a reinforcing structure.
