PURPOSE: A topical cosmetic or dermatological composition comprising special copolymer which is soluble or dispersible in water and/or organic solvents, in particular amphiphilic gradient copolymer is provided. The copolymer can be easily treated in water or organic solvent medium while maintaining rheological characteristics. The cosmetic composition is applied to make-up or care of keratinous substances, in particular the skin of the body or of the face, the nails, the hair and/or the eyelashes. CONSTITUTION: The cosmetic or dermatological composition comprises at least one gradient copolymer containing at least two different monomers and displaying a mass polydispersity index(Ip) of 2.5 or less and additionally a low composition polydispersity. The gradient copolymer has a weight-average molecular of 5,000 to 1,000,000g/mole and a number average molecular-weight of 5,000 to 1,000,000g/mole. In the composition, the gradient copolymer contains 1 to 99% by weight of one or more hydrophilic monomers and also one or more monomers which form homopolymer having a glass transition temperature of 20deg.C or less or a mixture of the monomer.
