A railway vehicle bogie comprises a side frame 5, Fig. 2, and a bolster 20 interlocked therewith in the transverse horizontal direction of the bogie by wedges 36 biased by springs 60, the wedges having flat side walls (37), (37a), Fig. 3 (not shown), and occupying pockets 29 in vertical columns 15 of the side frame and also occupying recesses (74) formed between a pair of vertical elongate lugs (70), 71 on each side of the bolster, at the end thereof, the columns having guide surfaces 18 flanking and immediately adjacent the associated wedge and of substantially greater vertical length than the lugs (70), 71 which are opposed to the surfaces 18 at a small clearance therefrom, wherein a bridging element 95 joining the side walls 23, (23a) of each column above the bolster projects into the bolster receiving opening 16, and limits the upward movement of the associated wedge 36. When the wedges are in their uppermost positions an upper edge in each case abuts the bottom face of the element 95 and the wedges still retain the bolster interlocked in the side frame 5. When the wedge is moved to this position, Fig. 6 (not shown), e.g. when a spring 60 is broken or when it is desired to disassemble the bolster and sideframe, the wedge tip 45 still overhangs the bolster opening and defines an enlarged portion 130 of the bolster opening 16. After removing the bolster spring group 28 the bolster may be lowered into alignment with the portion 130 for removal from the side frame. Tilting of the wedge 36 in the pocket 29, in the upper position of the wedge, is prevented by stop ribs (110), (110a), on the pocket side walls or by a stop (120), Fig. 7 (not shown), projecting from the rear inclined wall 24 of the pocket. The elements 95 reduce the span of the sideframe compression member 7 over the bolster opening and thus strengthen the frame. |
