PURPOSE: A digital camera for performing recompression and a control method therefor are provided so that it is unnecessary for a user to select and delete image files previously stored in a memory card when it is insufficient for the residual quantity of the memory card. CONSTITUTION: When it is insufficient for the capacity of a memory card, image files previously stored in the memory card are recompressed at a more higher compression rate according to the request of a user. The image files to be recompressed and a compression rate of the image files are set up according to the number of additional image files inputted from the user(806). The set image files are decompressed(807). The recovered image files are recompressed at the set compression rate(808).
