MICROORGANISM PENICILLIUM SP. AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING COMPACTIN USING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A microorganism Penicillium sp. and a process for producing compactin using the same are provided, thereby improving the productivity of compactin which has therapeutic effects on hyperlipemia. CONSTITUTION: The compactin producing microorganism Penicillium sp. CJ-20200(KCCM-10449) is provided, wherein the compactin is referred to as mevastatin having lactone structure of formula (1), free acid structure of formula (2) and sodium salt structure of formula (3); and Penicillium sp. CJ-20200(KCCM-10449) is produced by treating Penicillium sp. CJ-20030 with ultraviolet ray, isolating colonies grown on agar medium, and selecting one strain showing improved compacting producing activity. The process for producing compactin comprises culturing Penicillium sp. CJ-20200(KCCM-10449) in a medium and isolating compactin from the cultured medium.
