PURPOSE: A gearbox of a steering system is provided to reduce friction, noise and vibration by mutually rolling and contacting balls and a small ball in sliding a rack piston by adding the small groove to the lower end of a groove rotating the balls in a ball nut and adding the small ball to the groove. CONSTITUTION: A gearbox of a steering system is composed of an input shaft(205) installed in a housing(200) and rotated by receiving steering force generated by a driver; a ball screw(210) arranged to the front end of the input shaft to interlock with the input shaft; a rack piston(215) mounted out of the ball screw to slide in the axial direction with interposing balls between the ball screw and the rack piston; a small groove formed at the lowest side of the groove of the rack piston along the groove; and a small ball inserted along the small groove. The width for the upper end of the small groove formed at the rack piston is smaller than the diameter of the small ball to prevent the small ball inserted into the small groove from coming out.
