PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for preventing illegal use/loss of a mobile phone are provided to prevent use of a mobile phone by other person by enabling the mobile phone to be used only when an authentication signal is received. CONSTITUTION: When an authentication request signal is transmitted, a receiver of an authentication unit of a mobile phone receives it(S1). When the authentication request signal is received from the mobile phone, the second controller of the authentication unit determines whether the authentication request signal and a signal previously stored in the second memory are identical(S2). If the two signals are identical, an authentication signal is transmitted to the mobile phone(S3). If the two signals are not identical, a warning sound is outputted through a speaker(S4).
