PURPOSE: A sterilizing apparatus of a heat exchanger in an air conditioner is provided to always send clean air to a room by sterilizing a heat exchanger. CONSTITUTION: A heat exchanger(102) is arranged inside a case. A ventilating fan is installed at a lower part of the heat exchanger. A linear emitter(113) is installed at a place adjacent to the heat exchanger for electric discharge. In the state that the heat exchanger is electrically grounded, the heat exchanger becomes a collector. A high voltage generator(114) is connected with the emitter and the collector. When the heat exchanger exchanges heat of air, condensed water is generated on surfaces of fins or pipes of the heat exchanger due to a temperature difference. Bacteria are generated by the condensed water. If the high voltage generator applies a high voltage to the emitter and the heat exchanger, electric discharge is generated between the emitter and the heat exchanger, thereby ionizing the air and generating ozone to sterilize the heat exchanger by the ozone.
