The safety and cleaning system for the bars (5) on the caterpillars (2a, 2b) of textile material stretching head (1) has a cylindrical brush (13) driven in a rotary motion, and with its position relative to the stretching head modified according to the winding of the textile material round a caterpillar along a line close to the stretching rollers (4b, 4c). The brush has its axle (15) attached to a lever or moving bearing (16) pivoting about an axis (17) fixed to the machine frame, cover or to one of the caterpillars. In other variants the brush axle can be attached to a lever connected to one of the stretching head roller axles, or on a slider connected to the machine cover, and it can be pressed against the caterpillar bars by gravity, a spring or power cylinder.
