PURPOSE: An apparatus for counting the read address of a block interleaver and a method for the same are provided to easily implement the algorithm to read the data in the memory when the data inputted to the mobile communication terminal in the multi-rate is performed. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for counting the read address of a block interleaver includes a frame index counter(31), a bit reverse order block(33), a frame address counter(32), a frame left shift block(34) and a write address generator(35). The frame index counter(31) counts the frame index by receiving the number of frames. The bit reverse order block(33) receives the data counted by the frame index counter(31) and changes the order of the lower bits of the data to the number of bits determined by the number of the frames to output the changed value. The frame address counter(32) counts the addresses of the frame by the number of the frame. The frame left shift block(34) shifts the address count value outputted from the frame address counter(32) to the left direction. And, the write address generator(35) outputs the read address coefficient value by adding the output value of the bit reverse order block(33) to the output value of the frame left shift block(34).
