PURPOSE: An automatic zooming method for a digital camera is provided to quickly perform zooming according to a portrait photographing mode or a text photographing mode. CONSTITUTION: The first scan line is set up for retrieving an image photographed according to a set photographing mode, and a color of an object region is retrieved(S104,S110,S118). If the corresponding region is retrieved by line scan(S105,S111,S119), a color mean value and a deviation value of a photographing object are extracted, and the change condition of a pattern on the retrieved region is confirmed(S106,S113,S120,S121). The photographing object is confirmed on the basis of the change condition of the pattern, and the size of the photographing object is calculated(S108,S114). The calculated size is compared with a reference value, and the photographing object is zoomed at a predetermined suitable size(S109,S115,S122,S123).
