PURPOSE: A channel card operating method in a communication system is provided to continuously maintain high speed data service by allocating frequency of a failed 1xEV-DO channel card to a redundancy channel card. CONSTITUTION: The number of channel cards to be operated as active is obtained through the number of frequencies that can be supported in initialization of a communication system(S20). A channel card initialized in the communication system is determined to be active channel card or a redundancy channel card according to the number of channel cards operated as active(S21). If the active channel card is failed, the redundancy channel card is switched to an active channel card.
