PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a hot dip galvanized steel sheet which has a good surface appearance. SOLUTION: As for the method of producing a hot dip galvanized steel sheet having a good surface appearance, in a continuous hot dip galvanizing line where a steel sheet subjected to annealing in a reducing atmosphere is introduced into a hot dip zinc bath through a snout, and is plated, the steel sheet is dipped into the hot dip galvanizing bath consisting of, by mass, 0.08 to 0.50% Al and≤0.10% Fe, and the balance Zn, and is thereafter taken up. In this case, a metal flow having a metal flow rate of 30 to 100 m/min is produced in the plating bath at a depth within 100 mm from the plating bath face on the outlet side of the steel sheet in the hot dip galvanizing bath, and, also in the range within 100 mm from the surface of the steel sheet, so that the sticking of floating dross in the plating bath following the steel sheet is prevented.
