PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera with a built-in printer, which automatically changes the mode into a high compression (low image quality) mode on the occurrence of a fault in a printer so as to increase the number of storable images. SOLUTION: The camera uses a PI for detecting the running state of photographic paper and a PI for detecting the drive state of a head or the like to detect abnormality in the printer. A compression rate control means automatically sets the compression rate to a prescribed compression rate when the camera detects an abnormality. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
