PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unevenness of print density after capping by preventing the interior of a cap from drying up even after long term preservation. SOLUTION: In the first invention, an ink jet printer comprising a print head and a means for capping the print head ejects liquid from the print head into the cap after the print head is capped. In the second invention, the cap is internally provided with an ejection liquid sump. In the third invention, the cap is internally provided with an ejection liquid sump and the print head ejects liquid from a nozzle in the vicinity of the ejection liquid sump. In the fourth invention, liquid can be ejected from a dedicated print head to the ejection liquid sump. In the fifth invention, liquid being ejected from the dedicated head is different from the liquid being ejected from other heads. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
