PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool holder and a tool detaching method for easily detaching a tool from the tool holder without using large-scale equipment or the like even when the difference of expansion coefficients between the tool and the tool holder is small, while coping with high-speed high-efficiency machining. SOLUTION: The tool holder 1 has a tool holding part 12 formed with a tool holding hole 14 for inserting a shank part 10A of the tool 10 to hold it, wherein the inner diameter of the tool holding hole 14 is smaller than the outer diameter of the shank part 10A of the tool 10. A pressing mechanism for pressing the shank part 10A of the tool 10 held into the tool holding hole 14, in a detaching direction is provided on the further inner side of the tool holding hole 14 of the tool holding part 12.
