PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bar coater which prevents minute solids included mainly in a coating liquid from being clogged as foreign materials in grooves of a metering bar and causes no coating stripes. SOLUTION: The bar coater transfers an excessive amount of the coating liquid to a continuously traveling web, then obtains a desired film thickness by the metering bar, wherein the metering bar has the annular grooves on its peripheral surface and further, a supporting member of the metering bar has grooves of the shape reverse to the shape of the grooves of the metering bar in portions in contact with the metering bar.
