摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method whereby the state of an optical fiber and an optical relaying apparatus constituting an optical transmission line is quickly and accurately supervised with a simple configuration in a long distance multi-stage relay transmission system adopting Raman amplification, and to provide the configuration thereof. <P>SOLUTION: A Raman amplification relaying apparatus 100 using an optical fiber transmission line for a Raman amplification medium is provided with: a excitation light source unit 110 having a plurality of excitation LDs; a signal optical monitor section 52; and a excitation light monitor section 53 for monitoring excitation light outputted from a pre-stage relaying apparatus 200. The relaying apparatus 100 performs ALC (Automatic Level Control) by monitoring signal light, identifies the failure of a block 12 between the apparatus 100 and the pre-stage relaying apparatus 200 and a faulty LD by monitoring the excitation light of the pre-stage relaying apparatus 200, superimposes warning information on the excitation light of its own relaying apparatus and transmits the result to a transmission end station via relaying by a block 11 and the pre-stage relaying apparatus. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
