PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plane type macromolecular optical waveguide which is easy to manufacture and has simple constitution and excellent effect of clad mode suppression. SOLUTION: The plane type macromolecular optical waveguide 10 is an optical waveguide such that the wavelength of passing light is set to about 850 nm, and has a plane type core layer 11 of 20μm in film thickness which is formed of a macromolecular organic compound and plane clad layers 12 between which the core layer 11 is sandwiched by an upper part and a lower part. The clad layer 12 has an absorption coefficient larger than the absorption coefficient of the compound constituting the core layer 11 to guided light of about 850 nm in wavelength.
