PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a platy styrene resin foam which has excellent cutting and processing properties and flexibility necessary in the application of building materials, such as a core material for Tatami, without deteriorating heat resistance and flame retardancy although a foaming agent having a low load on the environment is used therein. SOLUTION: The platy styrene resin foam is obtained by the extrusion-foaming of a styrene resin, and contains at least one 3-5C saturated hydrocarbon as a foaming agent, a flame retardant comprising a halogen compound, and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of phosphoric ester compounds having a melting point of 40°C or higher. The configuration values of the cells of the foam satisfy the relations of the formulas: 0.1≤d=(a×b×c)<SP>1/3</SP>≤0.45 [wherein a (mm) is a mean cell diameter in the direction of thickness in a cross section of the foam; b (mm) is a mean cell diameter in the direction widthwise; and c (mm) is a mean cell diameter in the longitudinal direction]; 1.2≤a/b≤2.0; and 1.3≤a/c≤2.5.
