PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal protector preventing fail safe malfunction even when it is used in a high temperature atmosphere for a long time. SOLUTION: In a malfunction of a motor M wherein it can not reverse due to deterioration of a bimetallic strip 40 and a stationary contact 34 and a moving contact 32 are welded, excessive current continues to flow to a heater 50, and a whole of the thermal protector 10 reaches a high temperature. Solder 78 fixing a rivet 74 to an eyelet 76 melts, a free end part 72b of a flat spring 72 flips up the rivet 74, the welded stationary contact 34 and the moving contact 32 are separated, and the current is cut off.
