PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method of evaluating an optical information medium for quantitatively determining whether the surface of the optical information medium is good or not with good reproducibility by using artificial fingerprinting liquid which is a dispersion solution for evaluation. SOLUTION: The method of evaluating the optical information medium includes sticking the artificial fingerprinting liquid containing fine-granular material and dispersion medium capable of dispersing the fine-granular material to a surface on the recording/reproducing beam incident side of the optical information medium, and determining whether the surface of the medium is good or not by observing the state of artificial fingerprinting liquid droplets stuck to the surface. Whether the surface of the medium is good or not is determined by i. measuring an area rate which is occupied by the artificial fingerprinting liquid droplets stuck to each unit area of the surface, ii. measuring the diameter of the artificial fingerprinting liquid droplets stuck to the surface, iii. measuring the number of the artificial fingerprinting liquid droplets stuck to each unit area of the surface or iv. measuring the circularity degree of the artificial fingerprinting liquid droplets stuck to the surface.
