PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive capable of appropriately performing the signal detection process, etc., by preventing large fluctuation in the floating height of a slider when a so-called long seek operation is carried out. SOLUTION: This optical disk drive utilizing a constant linear velocity method has objective lenses 51, 52 mounted and is furnished with the freely movable slider 5 in the tracking direction. The moving area of the slider 5 in the tracking direction is divided into a plurality of zones X-Z, and also a reference rotation speed of the optical disk for the time of seek operation is set for every one of these zones X-Z, and when the slider 5 is moved from one zone to another, the rotation speed of the optical disk D is changed stepwise by successively setting the rotation speed of the optical disk D to the reference rotation speed of the zone whereon the slider 5 is positioned, for suppressing the fluctuation in floating height of the slider 5.
