PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce developing cost, manufacturing cost and storing cost in an automatic transmission 1 equipped with a starting unit A, a main transmission B and an output unit C mutually coupled for driving and arranged together within a transmission case. SOLUTION: The starting unit A includes a clutch, a double clutch 5 or a torque converter. The main transmission B is constituted as an intermediate shaft transmission. The transmission B is provided with at least one of transmission input shafts 6 and 7, an intermediate shaft 19 and at least a transmission output part arrayed non-coaxially with at least one of the transmission input shafts 6 and 7. The output unit C includes transmission members 41, 42 and 43 for driving front wheels by a transversely installed engine, a transmission member 39 for driving front wheels or rear wheels by a vertically installed engine or transmission members 44, 45, 46, 47, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 55 and 56 for driving all wheels.
