PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a bicyclo[2.2.1]heptene useful as a functional monomer or a material for producing base oils of fluids for traction drive. SOLUTION: The method for producing the bicyclo[2.2.1]heptene comprises carrying out a Diels-Alder reaction between a 3C or 4C acyclic olefin and cyclopentadiene, wherein the reaction is carried out by addition of a solvent and under the condition affording a liquid phase≥100 kg/m3in the density of the reaction field.
