PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which effectively prevents temperature variations of a fixing roller and wrinkles of a transfer medium and is capable of heating the fixing roller with external heat to a predetermined fixing-temperature range in a short warmup period. SOLUTION: The fixing device fixes a toner image to the surface of a transfer medium in such a manner that the surface of the fixing roller is risen to a predetermined fixing-temperature range by a pressure roller and heat applied by a heat roller and, in this condition, the transfer medium with the toner image transferred to its surface is passed through a nip area between the fixing roller and the pressure roller. In the fixing device, the fixing roller is constituted of an elastic roller having a fluorine-containing resin layer on its surface, and the pressure roller has heat capacity greater than the heat roller.
