PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably rubbing a long film such as an alignment substrate film without producing alignment unevenness over a long period of time . SOLUTION: The film is conveyed with a conveyer belt with a metal surface consisting of a material such as mirror finished copper, steel and copper and rubbing treated on the conveyer belt. In this case, a grade of the metal finish is kept 0.4S or higher to ensure adhesion to the film and tension of the conveyer belt is kept 2-20 kgf/mm<SP>2</SP>to prevent a film surface from loosening.
