PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gas flowmeter capable of reducing the load on a worker when attaching the meter to or detaching it from a gas channel. SOLUTION: A primary side piping connection section 21 and a secondary side piping connection section 22 of a flowmeter body 12 have a switch means 17 for detecting the non-connection or incomplete connection of piping that becomes the gas channel 10. A microcomputer 15 for calculating a flow rate value from the output signal of a flow rate detection mechanism 3 being mounted to the flowmeter body 12 for displaying on a display means 14 monitors the signal of the switch means 17, operates in a normal operation mode only when the piping connection is complete, and stops the operation of the flow rate detection mechanism 3 for operating in a sleep mode for restraining a power consumption when the piping connection is not made.
