PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve both high speed required for an actuator at the time of switching a range and high torque required for the actuator at the time of operating a parking mechanism, without increasing the size of the actuator and costs. SOLUTION: A shift by wire type automatic transmission conducts range switching by operating a manual valve 4 based on a range position selected by a driver by handling a shift lever 15, and includes a parking lock mechanism that locks a parking gear 8 fixed between a driving shaft or an output shaft inside the automatic transmission and a wheel in a parking range position by a mechanical means. In addition, a first actuator 18 for controlling the manual valve 4 and a second actuator 1 for controlling the parking lock mechanism are provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
