PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a cured gradient coating film excellent in appearance and solvent resistance and useful in the field of coating materials, especially, in the field of automobile coating and to provide a method for forming a laminated coating film containing the cured gradient coating film. SOLUTION: The method comprises the steps of : electrodepositing a water-based coating composition containing at least two resin components and a curing agent on a conductive substrate, separating the electrodeposited composition into layers under heating, and subsequently curing the layers, wherein the resin components include a resin component which constitutes a resin layer coming into direct contact with air before being coated with a topcoat and a resin component which constitutes a resin layer coming into direct contact with the conductive substrate and form the cured gradient coating film because of the relationships: 0.2<(δb-δa)<1.0 (whereinδa is the solubility parameter of the resin component which constitutes the resin layer coming into direct contact with air, andδb is the solubility parameter of the resin component which constitutes the resin layer coming into direct contact with the conductive substrate).
