PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide method and device for determining an offset value of a longitudinal direction acceleration sensor incorporatable into a vehicle. SOLUTION: In this method and device, a first inclination variable a1 showing inclination of a traveling road surface is determined from an output signal of the longitudinal direction acceleration sensor during stopping of the vehicle having an operated brake. After releasing the brake after the stopping of the vehicle, a second inclination variable a2 showing inclination of the traveling road surface and vehicle acceleration is determined from an output signal of the longitudinal direction acceleration sensor. As a function of both the inclination variables, the offset value (aoffset) of the longitudinal direction acceleration sensor is determined. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
