This invention relates to identificatican of an autoantigen implicated in the development and progression of Sjögren's Syndrome (pSS); particularly to the disease modifying effect of creating a deficiency in the ICA69 autoantigen; and most particularly to development of diagnostic and therapeutic avenues, means for the differential diagnosis of pSS versus other autoimmune disease, e.g. Systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE), and procedures for immunotherapeutic treatment effective to alter the course and progression of pSS.
