PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioning system having a reduced installation space even when a backup for the air conditioning system to provide for the stop of the air conditioning system utilizing exhaust heat from a power generation plant is placed side by side with the backup air conditioning system. SOLUTION: The air conditioning system comprises, at least, an interior unit 1 storing an evaporator 8, a compressor 9, an expansion valve 11 and a blower 7, an exterior unit 2 storing a condenser 10 and a blower 7, a refrigerator 3, a condensing unit 4, and a cooling tower 5. Normally, operating heat for the refrigerator 3 is taken from an external heat supply source connected to the refrigerator 3, and the interior unit 1, the refrigerator 3, the condensing unit 4 and the cooling tower 5 are operated for cooling. When heat required for operating the refrigerator 3 is not taken from the external heat supply source or when one of the refrigerator 3, the condensing unit 4 and the cooling tower 5 is not normally operated, the interior unit 1 and the exterior unit 2 are operated for cooling.
