PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mail server capable of automatically transmitting account information to a mail client, managing the account information in a unified way, and easily revising the account information or the like, and to provide an electronic mail system employing the same. SOLUTION: A mail server 4 includes a storage means for storing setting information for each of mail clients 2, and transmits the setting information stored in the storage means to a prescribed mail client 2 on the occurrence of a prescribed event. The prescribed event means subscription of a mail client 2 to a network, and the subscription of the mail client to the network is detected through the access of the mail client to a network address.
