PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means which can prepare a magnesium oxide film having membrane strength, transparency, and a film thickness durable for practical purposes by the coating film-forming method. SOLUTION: An organic acid metal salt is obtained by reacting a saturated monocarboxylic acid or its salt with an inorganic magnesium compound, and the saturated carboxylic acid or its salt contains not less than 97 wt.% 4-10C saturated monocarboxylic acid or its salt, and the organic acid metal salt contains not less than 99 wt.% organic acid magnesium salt.
