PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for manufacturing slaked lime having large specific surface area by improving a drying method of hydrous slaked lime which is carried out in the manufacture of slaked lime by the slaking of quick lime. SOLUTION: The slaked lime is manufactured by bringing powdery or granular quick lime into contact with water 1.5-5 times by mass of the theoretical quantity necessary for slaking to obtain hydrous slaked lime containing 5-30 mass% water and drying the hydrous slaked lime by dispersing into air heated to 100-350°C to be≤500 kg/m3slaked lime.
